Usually when the No. 1 team plays the No. 2 team, the game is competitive until the final buzzer.

Yet at Mariucci Arena on Tuesday, the Gophers took a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the first period and never looked back, winning 4-1 against Notre Dame.

Nate Condon scored the first goal for Minnesota a minute-and-a-half into the game and freshman goalie Adam Wilcox made 22-of-23 saves in another impressive game after being named WCHA Rookie of the Week the previous week.

Minnesota and Notre Dame were a combined 0-for-10 on the power play.

The Gophers will play two games at home against Alaska-Anchorage Friday and Saturday. The teams played in November in Anchorage with each team winning a game.
