Minnesota adds Californian receiver

On Sunday afternoon, the football program awaited the decision by the all-time receiving leader in California state history, Drew Wolitarsky. And the Californian chose Minnesota over San Jose State.

The Gophers will face San Jose State in mid-September at TCF Bank Stadium.  There are rumblings that Wolitarsky was a silent verbal for Minnesota for about a month.  There were few wide receivers the Gophers were still pursuing this late in the recruiting process.

With the decommitment of Nate Andrews late last week, Wolitarsky is the 15th member of the recruiting class.

Minnesota graduating one wide receiver this season in Brandon Green.  Green had only six receptions this season for 70 yards and one touchdown.

The Gophers are looking to replace AJ Barker. The top receiver from a season ago left before the end of the season due to conflicts with the coaching staff. The former walk-on led the team in all three receiving categories.

Wolitarsky becomes the second receiver in the 2013 recruiting class along with Eric Carter.  Carter joined Minnesota early in the season and projects as a slot receiver, while Wolitarsky is a prototypical outside receiver.

Here is Wolitarsky’s highlight reel.
