Mbakwe’s scholarship tweet removed

Trevor Mbakwe’s late Saturday night tweet vowing to repay his scholarship if the Gophers don’t make the NCAA Tournament is no longer available on his timeline.

In fact, all tweets and replies to friends and fans around his promise are no longer available as if the tweet never happened.

This news doesn’t come as a surprise; Mbakwe probably irked many people within the program with his tweet and it can be assumed that the athletic department’s public relations staff on Monday told Mbakwe to delete any traces of the tweet.

Mbakwe is a team leader in the eyes of the public, but it will be interesting to see if the tweet comes up again as the season progresses.

Gophers open regular season play on Friday at home against American University and will play their final exhibition game tonight against Southwest Baptist University at Williams Arena.
