Sophomore point guard Andre “Dre” Hollins was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday following a three-game weekend in which he scored 41 points in one game and hit three time-breaking free throws with .4 seconds left to launch Minnesota to a fifth place finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Hollins is the first Minnesota player to receive the award since Trevor Mbakwe was bestowed the honor in 2010.
The 6-1 Gophers also broke into the AP Top 25 on Monday, placed at No. 21. They will take their ranking to Florida State on Tuesday to play in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
