Top junior prospect Tyus Jones of Apply Valley, Minn. is scheduled to unofficially visit the University of Kentucky and coach John Calipari this weekend as the Wildcats play host to Texas A&M on Saturday.
While this is Jones’ first trip to Kentucky’s campus, Calipari has made the trip to see Jones in Minnesota twice. But Calipari joins a long list of head coaches who have visited Jones’ this season.
Last Saturday at the Timberwolves Shootout at the Target Center, Tubby Smith and North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams watched the game court-side as Jones’ Apple Valley squad took on Robbinsdale Cooper in the showcase game.
The 6-foot-1 point guard’s shortlist of schools, in addition to Minnesota, Kentucky and North Carolina, include Duke, Michigan State, Ohio State, Baylor and Kansas.
Jones sat behind the Minnesota bench when the Gophers played host to the Spartans on New Year’s Eve. The Williams Arena crowd chanted, “We want Tyus!” through portions of the game.
