Spin Your Head: Goldy the Gopher repeats as top mascot

We may have a dynasty on our hands.
Goldy the Gopher won the 2013 UCA Mascot National Championship at Disney World in Orlando Friday night — the second top finish in three years for Goldy.
Goldy has not finished below fifth place since 2000, according to Twin Cities Starlight who were there to witness the win.
In order to compete, mascots send in a highlight tap (video above) and the top 10 submissions from Division I schools are invited to Orlando over MLK weekend to compete.
In Orlando, each mascot performs a 90 second skit with a theme — Goldy’s theme was “Mission Impossible.”
Goldy beat out Bucky Badger, Brutus Buckeye, Herky Hawk, Sparty and seven-time national champion Aubie the Tiger to win it all.
This is quite an accomplishment for Goldy the Gopher, who, on a side-note, was punched in the face by a St. Thomas professor in 2011.
And let’s not forget Goldy stiff-arming a couple of kids to the ground in a “friendly” football match at the Metrodome — “Is that Adrian Peterson in there?”
