The University of Minnesota women’s hockey team swept WCHA rival Ohio State by winning 5-3 on Saturday to collect their 30th victory on the season — the sixth 30th win season in program history.
The win also extends the Gophers’ winning streak to 38 games.
Ohio State struck first with a goal five minutes into the opening period, but Megan Bozek responded with her 15th goal of the season, also her 42nd career goal — the most as a defensemen in Gopher history.
The Buckeyes would score again before the first period was over, but that was all Ohio State would see for a lead as Minnesota notched two unanswered goals in the second period to regain the lead.
Ohio State would score again in the third, but Amanda Kessel personally buried the Buckeyes by scoring twice in the final period to record her 39th and 40th goal of the season. Kessel would finish with a team-high four points as she tallied two assists in addition to her goals.
Minnesota will host a Friday-Saturday series against Bemidji State next weekend.
