Gophers win weekend series against Iowa

Following a 10th inning loss at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday, the Gopher baseball team took the last two games of the weekend series to improve their record to 26-14 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

Sunday, the Gophers beat the Hawkeyes in Iowa City, 9-5, thanks to three three-run innings.

Junior DJ Snelten picked up the win by going 6 and 1/3 innings with six strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Offensively, the Gophers had another hit-parade as they scattered 15 hits against Iowa pitchers for the second consecutive game. Michael Handel led the Gophers with three hits on four at-bats while also recording an RBI and two runs scored.

Despite producing 12 hits of their own, the Hawkeyes committed five errors in the contest.

The Gophers will play St. Thomas next at Siebert Field on Wednesday before traveling to Penn State next weekend.
