Gopher Basketball: Goodson leaving Pitino’s staff

Steve Goodson, the director of basketball operations for coach Richard Pitino’s Gophers, is leaving to accept a coaching position somewhere else.

Goodson, a 2005 graduate of Kentucky, is reportedly leaving the university to take a coaching job at a prep school in Arizona.

He worked as a special assistant to Tubby Smith at Kentucky and at Minnesota and was rehired by Pitino last month, according to the Pioneer Press.

It is expected that the assistant director of basketball operations, Josh Adel, will replace Goodson.

Goodson was the only member of Smith’s staff that was hired back. The Gophers had initially signed Mike Balado as the director of basketball operations, but he abruptly resigned and is now the new assistant coach for Louisville.
