Gopher recruit Reid Travis gives up football for basketball
By Frank Bi
DeLaSalle power forward and four-star recruit Reid Travis will give up football in his senior year of high school to focus on basketball, according to his father.
The 6-foot-8, 240 pound hoops recruit is ranked No. 40 in the Class of 2014 by ESPN and has offers ranging from Michigan State, Harvard, UCLA and Arizona in addition to Minnesota.
As a football player, Travis played quarterback for DeLaSalle, and has offers from Rutgers, Boston College and the Gophers. Boston College and Minnesota are the only schools that have offered Travis both a football and basketball scholarship.
Richard Pitino and the Gophers have a solid chance of landing Travis and are primarily competing against Stanford and UCLA, according to multiple sources.
