The first AP Top 25 poll released on Saturday officially marks the start of college football season. And for Alabama, it begins the fight to stay on top.
With all but two first place votes, the BCS champions from a year ago start the season No. 1 in the standings. Ohio State rank in at No. 2 following an undefeated season a year ago despite NCAA sanctions that prevented the Buckeyes to compete in the postseason.
Overall, five Big Ten teams made the preseason poll. Following by Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska poll in at No. 17 and 18, respectively. Northwestern makes the field at No. 22 followed by the Wisconsin Badgers at No. 23.
While Michigan State wasn’t listed, the Spartans received 95 points, placing them essentially at No. 26.
The Gophers did not receive a vote in the preseason rankings.
