The Gopher women’s soccer team continued their strong play this season by upsetting No. 7 Penn State, 1-0.
The win on Sunday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium was the first time Minnesota has beaten Penn State in six seasons. It was also the second time this season the Gophers have defeated a ranked opponent. They beat No. 13 Michigan two weeks ago in Ann Arbor.
The victory is especially sweet because Penn State had previously been undefeated in the Big Ten. The NCAA championship runner-ups from last season have only lost two games this year.
As for Minnesota, the win improves their conference record to 2-2-1 and 9-3-1 overall. They’ll face a slate of Northwestern, Iowa and Nebraska next.
