The Gophers will likely be short a body in the front court as redshirt freshman Charles Buggs is likely to sit out of Minnesota’s Big Ten opener against Michigan on Thursday night at Williams Arena.
The Arlington, Tex. native sprained his left ankle in practice last week, according to Richard Pitino, and has missed several practices while nursing the injury.
Buggs has not played in a game since early December in a win against Florida State in which he scored two points in four minutes. He’s only played in 19 minutes this season.
The 6-foot-9 forward was a three-star recruit in Minnesota’s class of 2012 and had offers from Arkansas, Marquette and Seton Hall before committing to Tubby Smith’s Gophers.
