U of M Looks To Ban Washington Team Name

The Washington Redskins are coming to TCF Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings on November 2, but you might not hear the word team’s name if you head to The Bank to see the game. The University of Minnesota is trying to ban the team’s nickname when Washington comes to town.

The Washington Post reports that the U is trying to ban the term in ‘promotional and game day materials’. This information comes from a letter from University President Eric Kaler to Representative Betty McCollum.

Rep. McCollum had asked Vikings Owner Zygi Wilf to condemn the Washington team name earlier, stating that team’s share the income from licensed merchandise.

Lester Bagley of the Vikings confirmed the report and said the Vikings are still deciding what they will do with the University of Minnesota’s request to bar the name from the stadium.
