Head coach Jerry Kill is building a solid 2016 recruiting class, and the latest addition came with Minneapolis North’s Tyler Johnson commitment on Sunday afternoon. Johnson ranked as the No. 2 recruit in Minnesota, made his commitment official on Twitter:

Johnson had other offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin and North Dakota State. He was rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals, and he is listed at 6’2″ and 179 pounds. He is playing quarterback right now, but he seems likely to move to another position at Minnesota and wide receiver, safety and cornerback have been offered as potential options.
The Golden Gophers’ 2016 recruiting class now has 18 players in it, and Johnson is the 10th in the group from Minnesota. Kill and his staff are closing the borders in-state and keeping some good recruits home, which is good news.
